Weather: SNOW!!!
Duration: 3 days

Incidents: I misjudged my speed while rafting and hit a bunch of trees on the bank.
A cool few days with some year 8 students from Westland High School. We were based around lake brunner and spent 3 days doing a bunch of cool stuff including games, rafting, camping and walking. day 1 we spent playing ABL games. as we were walking back to the lodge it began to snow slightly. we awoke in the morning to find it snowing heavily outside. later that day we loaded up the rafts and paddled across the lake to our campsite for the night. as we arrived the Sky's cleared and treated us to some much needed sunshine. we went out for a walk and then set up tents for the night. day 3 we packed up bright and early and drove to the Arnold. I was running the rafting plan and we changed from 4 to 3 rafts so Astraea missed out on guiding. once we were half way down i went to hit a wave on the other side of the river but gained to much momentum and kept going hitting the trees and wall just beyond the wave. overall the kids really enjoyed the week so our job was done.
Thanks Zak Shaw for the photos.

We set off from Greymouth at 1:00 pm and arrived at Kaiteriteri late that night amped for the next day. The next morning my group was on breakfast so we were up extra early packing up our gear and heading off to Stephens bay we packed our boats. We then went over the Diamond formation, paddle strokes and the plan for the day. We set off on our way to Fisher mans island for lunch and Rescues. Taz Taught us heaps of rescues and let us all have a try with empty boats i gave all of them a try the only one i struggled with was the re-entry roll i struggled to get back up. once we were done we set off to our camp site for the night the next few days we traveled up and down the beautiful coast line of Abel Tasman stopping off at some awesome places like Shag harbour where there were many seal pups which we were lucky enough to go swimming with which was the high light of the trip for me they were really playful swimming right up to you. the last day we set off from apple tree bay early and got packed up by 12 and went to Kahu Kayaks for a visit and got showed around we then went to Abel Tasman Kayak had a quick tour and did some work experiance for them and we were given some old broken paddles to make split kits so i made the most of that and i am now in the process of making one. I really enjoyed this trip it has been something i have always wanted to do since i was young, I will defiantly be visiting Abel Tasman National Park again.
Thank you Greg, Astria and Dan for the photos

We left Abel Tasman late afternoon on the 5th and spent the night in Anakiwa at Outward Bound. the first morning we were up at 6.30 for PT which involved sets of push ups, sit ups, squats and triceps dips then we ran 3 km followed by a jump off the jetty into the freezing cold sea followed by a cold shower. we had a quick tour of outward bound then loaded up out boats and set off along the Queen Charlotte Sound the first night we were scheduled to stay at Ratimera bay but our group had a few problems that we had to sort out and ended up staying in Kumutoto Bay instead. the next day we didn't make alot of progress we managed to make it to Ratimera bay for the night. The third day we pushed all the way up to Ships cove were we had lunch and a few people went for a dive but didn't get anything we tried to get back down to Blumine Island but the wind picked up alot and we couldn't cross so we went back into resolution bay for the night. the fourth day we pushed out 30+ km going from Resolution bay All the way back to Umuntata bay which left only 2.5 km for the last day. the last morning we awoke to a fully frozen camp site and managed to pack up and get back to Anakiwa at about 9:30 am we then packed the Trailer's and Headed back to Greymouth.

Weather: Raining
Duration: 4 hours
Group: Me, Tui, Grace, Dan, Adam, Brent, Robbie, Florence
Incidents: Many fake incidents no real ones.
a fun day we split up into 2 groups and headed up different ways along the track our group had Phil taking us and every few minuets he would stop us and give the two groups different scenarios the first scenario was an avalanche up at avalanche peak that had left one with a open fractured femur, one unconscious, one hypodermic and one with a ice axe in her chest. the next scenario was the funnest me and Dan had both taken datura a flower that causes you to hallucinate and have a sore stomach me and Dan both had alot of fun with this role. and Adam had an msr cooker explode in his face and tui was over exhausted and very hot.
the third scenario was a kayaking accident Flo had gone upside down and hit her head and Brent had a dislocated shoulder and Robbie was in shock and had hypothermia. i had the chance to be TL for this scenario. the last scenario tui was walking along and yelled out and fell of the side of one of the bridges it was very realistic we all thought it was quite funny until she didn't get back up then we thought it was serious until Zach walked along and dived into the bushes and then we knew it was another scenario. She had suspected spinal injury's so we made a stretcher out or two sticks a rigging rope and my bed roll then carried her out to the road which was very difficult crossing over the bridges and narrow parts of track.
Thank you Phill for the photos.

Noho Marae
Date: 5th-7th May
Location: Noho Marae
Duration: 3 days
Group: Outdoor rec, Eco tourism and Nanny's.
we started in Greymouth at about 9 and started our long drive down to Bruce bay stopping at a few places along the way like Frans Joseph glacier, and Hokitika for food. during the drive we had some fun involving siting upside down in our seats for about an hour and a half once we finally arrived we had the Powhiri which was a very interesting new experience. after we set up the sleeping area and cooked dinner. that night was a late night the Whare nui was way to hot and every one was really noisy so no one got much sleep. the next day we had some classes learning about the creation of the land. Later we walked along the beach. I found a piece of Aotea (not sure of the spelling) a blue stone which i was really stoked about. That night we had to produce a 5 Minuit skit in our Hapus and we were given a theme my Hapu Te Moana was given when caught the Terakihi fish will give up when caught but the shark will fight untill the very end. the judges were Paula, Jeff and Hene our team one with a score of 28 out of 30 beeting the other teams buy at least 2 which we were all happy about. That night we all managed to sleap easy because we were all so tyred from the lack of sleep the night before and someone thought it would be a good idea to turn the fan on (thanks to who ever that was). the next day we had breakfast packed up and the Tangata Whenua fare welled us and as we left all the boys did the haka but we all got to pumped up for it and started early so it was kind of messy. once that was done we all jumped in the vans and headed back to Greymouth. It was a great trip i really enjoyed it, it was something different compared to a normal week of an outdoor recer.
Gretchins Awsome game
Bruce Bay
Lake Mahanipua
Date: 9th-10th February
Location: Lake Mahinipua
Weather: Clear and hot
Duration: 2 days
Group: Outdoor Recreation Course and Eco-Tourism
Group: Outdoor Recreation Course and Eco-Tourism
Incidents: None
On our first week of course we had a two day trip to lake Mahinipua. over the two days we all got to know each other slightly better and had heaps of fun competing against each other in the Mahinipua Tournament there were three teams Team Mountain, Fig jam (Fuck I'm Good Just Ask Me) and my team the Do Bros. we had heaps of challenges involving filling a barrel with cups over a high bar. pushing Tech vans making a mascot and chant. But the best on was when we came back from the beach at about 12 pm Keith Riley telling us to put on our wetsuits and meet at the lake in 10 Minuit's we all walked off laughing "Ha ha good one Keith... ... Oh shit is he serious" he was. so we then had to create a raft out of two kayaks ropes and a few pieces of wood then race out to Phil In his kayak then paddle back and dismantle your raft. In the end the mighty Do Bros came out on top and won it from behind with the last competition. I really enjoyed and this will be a hard trip to top.
